Welcome to

Woodward Academy

Message from the Chief Administrative Officer

On behalf of our Board of Directors, we welcome you to Woodward Academy. As your newly appointed school leader, I am honored to be part of a dynamic learning community that believes ALL children can achieve at high levels.

As I write this message I ponder the definition of community and am reminded of my mother’s famed motto, “You can never have too many friends.” Since my appointment in December 2008, I quickly came to realize the culture of the Academy was one that solicited and provided support for children and families in our community and surrounding areas. Fundamentally, the dedicated and talented staff, active and strong parent involvement, and a supportive and generous community must continue to befriend one another in order to provide quality educational opportunities for students.

While policymakers and state and national leaders continue to debate educational structures and methods of support, one message remains consistent; “public schools must do more with less.” Woodward Academy has responded by doing just that. In a time when many public school buildings are closing, Woodward Academy has continued to thrive by adding programs and activities, creating and maintaining community partnerships, renovating existing building space, maintaining enrollment, and demonstrating student achievement gains.

We are committed to continuous improvement by using data to guide decisions and implementing a system that responds to individual student needs. As we move forward, the Academy will emphasize a results-oriented model built from establishing common goals and a shared commitment to excellence. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead of us.

In the interest of students-

David Patterson

Chief Administrative Officer
